大阪にいる林さん（Joyce Lin）から、昨日のメールに対する返信があった。直接お会いすることはできなかったが、質問には日本語で答えておいた。昨日、小川町のオフィスを訪問してくださったSPRING（サービス産業生産性協議会）の吉田さんのコメントが興味深かった。「（日本にとって）屈辱的な質問でしたね」（吉田さん）。わたしも同じ思いだったが、それが現実である。
二人の間のやり取りを、記録に残しておくことにする。誠実な返信で安心したのだが、わたしのコメントは、雑誌の特集号では、どのような取り扱われかたをするのだろうか？ 格調高い日本語で書いたので、翻訳がうまくできるかどうか。不安が混じった気持ちでいる。
わたしもまた、友好国の台湾人に対して、誠実に対応したつもりである。願わくば、二週間早めに連絡もらえば、オフィスで直接、ご本人と会うことができただろうに。またの機会に期待したい。
林さんは、きれいな英語を書いてくださっていた。海外で大学教育を受けたのだろうと推測できる。いまはそういう時代である。男性なのか女性なのか？最後まで分からなかった。（笑）Joyceは、男女両性ともにあるらしい。
